At the elementary level, the students explore art history as it coincides with their regular history curriculum. They are exposed to various pieces of artwork, artistic styles, and artists. Additionally, they are either introduced to or review the elements of art, principles of design, and various artistic techniques, which they then apply to their own artwork. The media/techniques the students at this level use include the following: Pencil, Colored Pencil, Marker, Oil Pastel, Watercolor, Tempera, Collage, Printmaking, and Paper Mache.
At the high school level, students take a more in-depth look at the elements of art, principles of design, and apply these to a variety of projects while exploring a variety of mediums and techniques: Pencil drawings, Acrylic Paintings, Paper Collages, Sculpture, and Printmaking. Students develop their critical thinking skills as they learn the four steps of Art Criticism, and are also exposed to art history.
