FACS 2
Freedom’s Academic Core Subjects
 2 day University-Style Elementary Program
2011-2012

FACS 2 classes are held at Freedom Christian Schools, located in Hudsonville.
FACS 2 classes function on Freedom’s regular school year schedule, Sept. 8, 2011 to June 7, 2012.  Daily Schedule - 8:00 am to 2:45 pm on Mondays and Thursdays.

The FACS 2 Program is an extension of the Christian home.  We offer an academically excellent program in a warm, loving and disciplined atmosphere that encourages spiritual growth and character development.

FACS 2 students meet in classrooms with other homeschooled students and are taught by quality teachers who understand the homeschooling component of innovative education and have a college degree.

Students receive instruction in these core subjects:
Math, English (reading, spelling, and writing), History, and Science.
Elementary students also participate in Music class.

Students enrolled in the FACS 2 program are tested in a mathematics placement test and a reading comprehension assessment at the beginning of the school year, and then placed in the appropriate academic levels according to their ability in those subjects.

Parents Role in Elementary FACS 2

The FACS 2 program gives parents the opportunity to be involved directly in      their child’s education with the professional assistance of teachers who choose curriculum, set deadlines and keep records.

In the elementary program, parents will serve as "co-teacher" in the satellite classroom at home.  Teachers develop and teach lessons on Mondays and Thursdays. Parents will receive instructions from the teacher on a weekly basis outlining home assignments, and preparations needed for the next class.  Parents must take extensive responsibility at home for direct instruction in subjects where young students need assistance and explanation. Parents are encouraged to sit at a table with their child overseeing their school work.

Parents must complete home lessons with their child in order to successfully complete the partnership with Freedom School. The Elementary FACS program is formatted into 4 days of formal education – two days at home, two days at school.

Parents are encouraged to volunteer in the classroom throughout the year gaining an understanding of the structure of the class and getting to know their child’s peers and teachers.

Elementary Curriculum:

Language Arts - Abeka Phonics, Sonlight independent readers and read alouds, Open Court group reading, Modern Curriculum Press Spelling, and Shurley Grammar.
Math – Saxon 1 ,2, 3, 54, 65
Science -  Purposeful Design,
History – Sonlight Readers and Geographyprogram

Each elementary class memorizes a Bible passage, a classic poem and hymn for the year.  Although Bible is not a separate subject taught in the FACS programs, our teachers begin each school day reading the scriptures and making simple practical applications to the students’ lives.

FACS students participate in spelling and geography bees and speech meets with Freedom’s full time students.  Field Trips and Standardized testing are also coordinated with Freedom’s 5 day teachers and students.
